2019 brings a lot of upgrades to the Chattooga Baseball program.  A new coaching staff and a new attitude are moving things forward with this talent laden team.  “Settling for mediocrity will no longer be the norm with the baseball program here at Chattooga, we’re here to reach our full potential.  The days of just getting by are over,” said Mike Shank, the Indians new Head Coach.

The 2019 version of the Indians brings discipline and veteran leadership both from the players and the coaching staff.  In addition to new Head Coach Mike Shank, Coach Chris Davis returns to the Indians dugout.  “Coach Davis is one of the best coaches to ever work with the baseball players in this area.  He brings a wealth of knowledge to our program and his passion for the game and for the youth of this community is second to none,” said Shank.  Also joining the staff is former Indians athlete Wade Lanier who teaches Physical Education at Menlo Elementary. Coach Lanier will work with the outfielders and be in charge of the Junior Varsity team.

With a solid group of teams in Region 7-AA the Indians will have to compete at their best every day.  The season will start with several key starters still participating on the basketball team, Devin Price, Clayton Johnson, and Dylan Woody are all projected starters.  Price and Woody will solidify the outfield, while Johnson will be a big part of the left side of the infield and will also anchor down a spot in the pitching rotation.

Seniors Brennon Whitlock, Dexter Brown, and Caleb Veitch have been there since day one of practice this season and are looking as strong as ever.  Whitlock will start at shortstop, Brown will start behind the plate, and Veitch will be at first base. Whitlock and Brown will also spend time on the mound throughout the season.

Other returning players include Juniors Roger Chandler (P), Zack Tucker (P/C), Devin Wandell (OF), Bayln Stephens (P/IF), & Austin Cordle (P).  Senior Corey Curtis, Junior Baylor Wilson, and Junior Hunter Ratledge have returned to the Indian Baseball Program after taking some time off and look to compete for spots in the outfield.  Also, Sophomore Ty Veatch, Sophomore Aaron Pledger, and Freshman Ryan Hedgecoth will be looking to get in the action this year.

Chattooga will start the season at Cedartown on Monday, February 11th at 5:30.  The Indians first home game will be on Thursday, February 14th at 5:30.
