The 15-day-old newborn found in a duffel bag in the woods on Sunday died from blunt force trauma, police say.
Caliyah McNabb was found less than a half of a mile from her home in Newton County on Sunday. Investigators say she was premature and weighed just 5 lbs. She was wrapped in a blue cloth and the bag was found underneath a log.
The infants parents called 911 on Saturday morning arund 10:00 a.m after finding the baby missing from her crib. The mother reported she fed the baby at 5:00 a.m. before putting her back to sleep. 11Alive has the 911 call.
At this time, the infant’s father, Christopher McNabb, is the only person of interest. He initially fled after the infant was discovered deceased, but was found by law enforcement a few hours later. He’s being held by authorities on a probation violation charge. Caliyah’s mother, Courtney Bell, was questioned and released. She is not considered a suspect or person of interest at this time.
The GBI will conduct a more thorough investigation as well as an autopsy of baby Caliyah.
